Challenge

Evergoods wanted a super-slim, card-focused wallet that could also carry a few cargo items: an AirTag, a spare key, a gym fob. The goal was an EDC-focused product that felt unique and interesting, not just another card sleeve. We also wanted to build it out of Evergoods' Element fabric, a TPU-coated nylon that's incredibly durable and compatible with RF welding, which shaped a lot of what came next.

Research

The goal for a minimal, card-focused wallet is to help you carry just what you need with very little extra. After using and evaluating a number of wallets from different manufacturers, we concluded that six cards was about the most anyone would realistically need. Adding a small cargo area let the wallet also carry a few folded bills, so a single minimal product could cover everything someone actually needs to carry.

Design Direction

What makes this wallet different is that it's 100% stitchless. There isn't a single seam or needle hole through the fabric, which makes it thinner, more elegant, and more durable, while keeping the look genuinely minimal. We also integrated neodymium magnets to keep the wallet securely closed and compact in a pocket. They're strong enough that it snaps shut with a satisfying, reassuring feel. It ends up doubling as a bit of a fidget toy while you're waiting in line for coffee. It's just a fun product to hold.

Development

For something that looks this simple, there was a surprising amount of development behind it. As a stitchless wallet, every RF-welding operation needed custom tooling to keep each weld consistent and precise. Laser cutting was its own challenge, especially making sure the edges would still look great after months of daily use. For branding, we landed on a very light laser etch for the Evergoods logo, plus a minimal internal label tucked inside a pocket so it doesn't distract from the clean exterior. The cargo pocket was one of the biggest design challenges of the whole project: it had to stay thin and minimalist while still securely holding valuable items. A zipper or snap closure was off the table immediately since either would have added too much bulk, so instead we designed a simple gutter that catches anything trying to slide out, no hardware required. Even the packaging was designed to match the product: minimal, refined, and purposeful.

Prototype

Every round of development was prototyped in-house first. I laser cut, bonded, and tested every construction, pattern, and process myself to make sure it actually worked before ever involving the factory. Getting the final radius along the fold right was one of the harder problems: we needed a way to heat-form that crease without affecting the rest of the wallet. Solving it took a lot of 3D modeling, 3D printing, fixtures, and testing to get a fold that was consistent every time while keeping the ideal thickness.

Manufacturing

Once development moved into production, we built custom fixtures and tooling so every operation lined up correctly, holding tolerances measured in millimetres instead of the wider variation you'd normally expect on a softgoods product. Throughout manufacturing I stayed available to answer questions, review samples, and make sure every build matched the original design intent. A lot of that work was really about building fixtures and processes that made production repeatable, so each wallet comes out consistent from one unit to the next.

Final Product

What shipped is a genuinely stitchless, six-card wallet with a small secure cargo gutter, a magnetic close that snaps shut with authority, and edges that still look sharp after months of daily carry. It doesn't look like a product with this much engineering behind it, which is exactly the point.

Reflection

Looking back, it's surprising how many decisions went into what looks like such a simple product. I'm really happy with where it landed: the form factor, the way it operates, the overall experience of using it. It's a wallet I'll genuinely be carrying for years to come.
